It's been a while since I've drawn any comic strips. I will hopefully have some new Mr. Ball material in the next couple of weeks.

I drew the evil geniuses without any reference material to copy from. The first person to correctly identify them all will win a prize.

The Silent Phone / Cell Phone Cartoon Duel

For those of you new to the site, this whole thing started off as one big competition. The idea was that every week, me and my three-or-four friends would post some sort of comedy entry, and then the world would vote on the funniest person. The idea fell apart pretty quickly because my friends are too lazy to write anything on a weekly basis, and because I'm too lazy to maintain any kind of website(I'm even too lazy to fix my blog's formatting issues even though everybody's told me to fix it. It's pretty pathetic)...so it's sort of morphed into "Jeff's blog".

Still, every once in a while, a John Q. Casual member will officially challenge me to a duel. This week, Doug challenged me. His topic? "Cartoons about cell phones".

He went with the one-panel format:



Meanwhile, I went with a semi-animated youtube extravaganza called "The Silent Phone".



I think I won. But I'm an arrogant jerk and I say that every time I participate in a duel.

Be sure to include a specific topic, a deadline(usually a week's notice is good), and then later provide me your entry(or a link so that I can link to it from my blog). Pregnant!

My wife informed me last night that she is pregnant. She had just taken a pregnancy test when she gave me the news. Impromptu baby announcements are one of the only moments in life where a person can pee on an object, and then waive that object in another person's face and still it somehow ends up being a happy joyful celebratory experience for them.

I don't want to get too personal, but we weren't even trying. In fact, we were using protection. I must be the most fertile man alive, to have impregnated her like I did.

There's not much more that I can say about that. But I did draw a quick comic about how it all went down. I hope you enjoy it:

Ice Cream Comic...The Ultimate Showdown

Here's a phone conversation I had with Doug about a week ago. I might be completely off on this, but Doug can correct me on the details if he wants. I remember it going something like this:

Doug: So I drew a comic with a guy selling life insurance to a black widow, but I can't think of any good captions/punchlines that aren't completely obvious.

Me: I got nothing.

[30 minutes of us talking about our feelings]

Me: Hey, I think we need more comics for the johnqcasual site.

Doug: We should have a competition to see who can make the best comic based on a central theme.

Me: What should the theme be?

Doug: I don't know.

[more talking about feelings, with me eventually recapping a recent trip to Coldstone]

Doug: Ok, let's have our comics be about ice cream.

Me: It's a deal. By this Sunday, we will both have very funny comic strips about ice cream.

Doug: Gotta go. See ya.

Me: No, you hang up. You hang up!

Doug: No, you! Ok, we'll hang up on the count of three.

Ok, so here we are a week later. I finished much later than the Sunday deadline, so I think I lost by default. Still, at least I finished. I will post the results.

The ironic thing about all of this is that Doug couldn't come up with any ideas, and MY comic was an idea that Doug actually came up with years ago, which he then forgot about, and was then stolen by me. We are such a duo!

These comics might not be good enough for the art section of www.johnqcasual.com, but I am more than happy to let them pad out my blog.
